Raging Hearts By: Amy Blankenship

Title: Raging Hearts
Author: Amy Blankenship
Series:Guardian Heart Crystal
Type: Manga/Dark Fantasy
Year: 2007

Reason for reading: Read the other books in the series and enjoyed them. Plus I'm friends with the Author.

Summary and Blurb: Toya would fight all odds to stay by Kyoko's side. His heart and his daggers are hers to take. He only asks that she accept them. Even when the darkness of their enemy threatens what they have fought so hard for, Toya would die for her honor and her love. In a moment of bliss, he finally gains the courage to open his hidden heart and confess the true emotions he keeps within. That moment is forever changed when Kyoko is taken from his world by the heartless fates above. Believing he is cursed, Toya gives up, falsely accepting that his reason to live has forsaken him. Now, Toya must defend her against the worst enemy of all...himself.

Thoughts: I enjoyed this one. But I feel the other books in the series are better than this installment. I really connected with the stories in Book 1 & 3. This one was harder to get into. This time around the love interests where Kyoko & Toya. They have a very push and shove relationship, that's really interesting. I have never been a big fan of Toya's, and I was hoping he'd grow on me but it just didn't happen. He's very frustrating. But what man isn't. Real or Fictional.

Wages of Sin

Title: Wages of Sin
Author: Jenna Maclaine
Series: Cin Craven, Book 1
Genre: Historical Paranormal Romance
Year: 2008

Reason for reading: I first read this book when it was self-published in 2006 and loved it. When I heard that Jenna Maclaine got picked up by St. Martin's Press I was so excited. So, naturally I had to read it again.

Summary and Blurb: (From back of book)Dulcinea Craven descends from a long line of witches, and she has just inherited wild, untrained magical powers that she has no idea how to control. Now a ruthless vampire and an age-old demon are determined to enslave Cin and steal her power for their own. Her only hope is The Righteous, a band of warrior vampires who slay the rogue undead. Among them is Michael, a fierce swordsman who inflames Cin’s most primal hungers. Showing her a sensual pleasure beyond anything in the mortal realm, she must choose between the human existence she has always known, and immortality as a vampire—a new life filled with forbidden urges, dark yearning, and unearthly passions…

Thoughts: This book was even better the second time around. After reading this the first time, I really got me interested into reading Historials again. Ms. Maclaine has created an exciting and fresh twist on witches and vampires. Cin and Michael burn bright from their first meeting and they keep you turning the pages, to see what happens next. My favorite thing though is "The Righteous" themselves. A group of vampires fighting evil, I can't wait to find out more about them and what's next for them.

Spirits Unveiled- Amanda Cummings

Title: Spirits Unveiled
Author: Amanda Cummings
Type: Steamy Fantasy Romance
Year: 2008

Reason for reading: I'm friends with the Author. Plus I really enjoyed reading it the first time when it was in the writing process.

Summary and Blurb: In a land where people carry within themselves an animal spirit lives four clans; Bear, Wolf, Hawk and Tiger. Darien, leader of the Wolf clan, finds himself captured and imprisoned by his enemy, the Bear clan. Emotionally battered her entire life, Raina, daughter of the Bear clan leader, fears a forced marriage to a horrid man looming in her future. A plan forms--free the prisoner in exchange for his protection to find her safety. Inexplicably drawn to each other, Darien struggles with his inner yearnings. They are from rival clans. Yet with every touch, every heated kiss, he is unable to deny what his body craves. Secrets and visions are revealed and hope lies within Darien and Raina if they can only embrace who they truly are, for the Spirits have destined the two to make right a terrible wrong that took place a thousand years ago.

Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book! Amanda has created very interesting new world. The world is described in great detail, but not overly so that it bores the reader. It's rich and exciting. Right away I became entralled with Darien and Raina, they are everything an Alpha and heroine should be. If your looking for something new in fantasy I'd highly recommend this book.

Acheron

Title: Acheron
Author: Sherrilyn Kenyon
Series: Dark-Hunter
Type: Paranormal Romance
Year: 2008

Reason for reading: Because Sherrilyn Kenyon Rocks! Her books were recommended to me by a friend. I justwish I had read them sooner. There hasn't been a book of hers yet that I haven't liked. If youhaven't read this series yet, give it a spin. You won't be disappointed. :)

Summary and Blurb: (From book cover)Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. However, his human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Then, brought back against his will, Acheron became the sole defender of mankind. Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he never wanted revealed. Until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence. Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both. War has never been more deadly... or more fun.

Thoughts: I loved every bit of this book. I think its the best Dark-Hunter book in a good long while. It's now one of my favorites. The first part of the book consists of Ash's past. Even though readers know that he didn'thave the greatest past. It was still very hard to read it. It was so heartbreaking. Feels like your reading about a different person then the one we've met in past books. I didn't like his heroine to begin with, but now think she's perfect for Ash. All around a great book. I couldn't put it down once I started it. It's everything the fans were hoping for.

Pleasure Unbound

This was the first time I have read anything by Larissa Ione. When it first came out I was debating to read it or not. Then a few friends told me how good it was. I'm really glad I decided to pick it up, because it was delight to read. Pleasure Unbound is an enthralling read. I devoured it about in three days. This is fast paced page turner. I had a hard time putting it down. If your looking for something for fresh and new Pleasure Unbound is it.

Three brothers, incubus demons by birth, human in appearance (mostly), have pulled together to make the most of the healing skills common to their species. Review: A Rush of Wings

A Rush of Wings

Book Description:

HIS NAME IS DANTE.

Dark. Talented. Beautiful. Star of the rock band Inferno. Rumored owner of the hot New Orleans nightspot Club Hell. Born of the Blood, then broken by an evil beyond imagination.

HIS PAST IS A MYSTERY.

F.B.I. Special Agent Heather Wallace has been tracking a sadistic serial murderer known as the Cross Country Killer, and the trail has led her to New Orleans, Club Hell, and Dante. But the dangerously attractive musician not only resists her investigation, he claims to be "nightkind": in other words, a vampire. Digging into his past for answers reveals little. A juvenile record a mile long. No social security number. No known birth date. In and out of foster homes for most of his life before being taken in by a man named Lucien DeNoir, who appears to guard mysteries of his own.

HIS FUTURE IS CHAOS.

What Heather does know about Dante is that something links him to the killer -- and she's pretty sure that link makes him the CCK's next target. Heather must unravel the truth about this sensual, complicated, vulnerable young man -- who, she begins to believe, may indeed be a vampire -- in order to finally bring a killer to justice. But Dante's past holds a shocking, dangerous secret, and once it is revealed not even Heather will be able to protect him from his destiny...

Review: Two things attracted me to this book. Firstly the cover, it's pretty great. Sadly the cover is very misleading. Our girl Heather doesn't dress like this anywhere in the story. Nor is there mention of a tattoo on her arm. I know Authors don't have much say in the cover art but, I always find it sad when the covers don't match the story or characters at least a little. And the second thing that drew me to this book is that it takes place  in New Orleans. I have never been there myself, so I love reading books that take place there.

This is an Urban Fantasy novel, no denying it. It's dark & action filled and bloody at times. This was a good read. I really enjoyed reading the two main characters, Dante & Heather. They are what stood out for me. Dante is every  bit the mysterious vampire and Heather the non-believer right up until she sees proof. This is a must read for any fan of Urban Fantasy.

Lover Enshrined

If you haven't read the Black Dagger Brotherhood... well that's just crazy. Get out there and read it you won't be disappointed! :)

This is the 6th book in the series, and they just keep getting better and better. The author is truly a talented writer. It was amazingly intense. In this installment J.R. Ward really gifted her fans with so much information about the world and the people in it. This book wasn't just revolving around the main two characters, there were quiet a few story lines going on, and it was great learning more about the characters.

Book Description: Fiercely loyal to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Phury has sacrificed himself for the good of the race, becoming the male responsible for keeping the Brotherhood's bloodlines alive. As Primale of the Chosen, he is to father the sons and daughters who will ensure that the traditions of the race survive and that there are warriors to fight those who want all vampires extinguished. Review-- Wicked Game

Photobucket

Rock Music & Vampires, two of my favorite things!

Former con artist Ciara takes a job at a rock radio station WVMP. She's hired as a marketing intern. She's there to help the station, so it doesn't get bought by big corp Skywave. The DJ's are vampires that are stuck in their era. It's the music and radio station, that is the staple to their world. To survive and Not Fade Away.

I found Jeri's vampire mythology very intriguing. Not only are they stuck in the era/year they died in but alot of them seem to have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which I find very interesting. I don't think I have ever read about vampires like these ones. Another thing I found cool about this book is that each chapter is named for a rock song. Such songs as It's Only Rock N' Roll(But I like it), Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Come As You Are.

The book was fast, fun and sexy. I highly recommend it. So far it's one of my favorite book of 2008. This is the first book that I read by Jeri Smith-Ready. But she has also written: Requiem for the Devil, The Wild's Call (online story), Eye of Crow & Voice of Crow

My favorite quote from the book is this: "Sounds like rehashed cliches to me, warmed-over Anne Rice, but hey, I scarf down those trendy vampire novels like they were heroin-soaked potato chips..." ~Ciara

Book Description:
Recovering con artist Ciara Griffin is trying to live the straight life, even if it means finding a (shudder!) real job. She takes an internship at a local radio station, whose late-night time-warp format features 1940s blues, 60s psychedelia, 80s Goth, and more, all with an uncannily authentic flair. Ciara soon discovers how the DJs maintain their cred: they’re vampires, stuck forever in the eras in which they were turned.

Ciara’s first instinct, as always, is to cut and run. But communications giant Skywave wants to buy WMMP and turn it into just another hit-playing clone. Without the station—and the link it provides to their original Life Times—the vampires would "fade," becoming little more than mindless ghosts of the past. Suddenly a routine corporate takeover becomes a matter of life and un-death.

To boost ratings and save the lives of her strange new friends, Ciara re-brands the station as "WVMP, the Lifeblood of Rock ’n’ Roll." In the ultimate con, she hides the DJs’ vampire nature in plain sight, disguising the bloody truth as a marketing gimmick. WVMP becomes the hottest thing around—next to Ciara’s complicated affair with grunge vamp Shane McAllister. But the "gimmick" enrages a posse of ancient and powerful vampires who aren’t so eager to be brought into the light. Soon the stakes are higher-and the perils graver-than any con game Ciara’s ever played…

Book Review - Bound By Magic

Photobucket

BOUND BY MAGIC starts off with an Erotic bang!

Although I maybe bias since I'm a friends with the author but, this book is a fun entertaining read. I definitely recommend it. I think any fan of Erotica Fantasy would enjoy it.

For a first time author, Amanda Cummings writes sex scenes amazingly well. She has created a very unique world, that consists of erotic dreams, magic, hunky guys and of course the bad guys who are trying to ruin everything.

Book Description: Two worlds held together by magic, the Earth realm and the realm of Aldar. Amber Moyer is a Chosen from our world. A Light In The Heart Of Darkness

Photobucket

I discovered A Light in the Heart of Darkness through the website Shelfari.com, by meeting the author. She recommended the book to me. This is the fourth book in The Guardian Heart Series, and the I first one I read. For those who are wondering, I have been told by the author that these books don't need to be read in order all of them are stand alone novels. I would describe this book as Dark Fantasy Anime, with a dash of Romance. This was my first dip into the Anime genre and I have to say I throughly enjoyed it. It was a fast paced, exciting and suspenseful. I'd definitley recommend it. I believe any Anime fan out there would enjoy this book. It's an entertaining story with amazing graphics.

Book Description:
To Kyoko, mythical creatures are something you rent and watch on a Saturday night with your friends. When a mysterious stalker turns the shadows around her into dark corners with sharp deadly edges, will she be able to hide from the past? Darkness has fallen upon the world again and the guardians have been awaiting the resurrection. Though they are thought to be creatures of myth, in this reality they are far more real than people think. ARC- Happy Hour of the Dead

Photobucket

First I have to say I loved, loved this book. It was dark, sexy and funny. It's like no other book out there. Especially for an Urban Fantasy. If your a fan of Urban Fantasy novels, Happy Hour of the Damned is definitely a must read!

I met Mark Henry by way of MySpace & LiveJournal. Before I knew what his book was about I seen the cover art and was pretty much hooked. It's a pretty great cover as you can see above. The art department really out did themselves. And lets face it, in the past there have been some pretty terrible covers. To the point where the people on the cover look nothing like what the characters actually do.

Our heroine... Amanda is sassy, catty, a fun fashionista party girl, laugh out loud funny and a zombie to boot. She's not your father's type of zombies. She maybe be a flesh eating zombie, but she does it with style. For as she puts it she's "Hot as Hell"

BOOK DESCRIPTION:
Seattle. One minute you're drinking a vanilla breve, the next, some creepy old dude is breathing on you, turning you into a zombie. And that's just for starters. Now, the recently deceased Amanda Feral is trying to make her way through Seattle's undead scene with style (mortuary-grade makeup, six-inch stilettos, Balenciaga handbag on sale) while satisfying her craving for human flesh (Don't judge. And no, not like chicken.) and decent vodkatinis.

Making her way through a dangerous world of cloud-doped bloodsuckers, reapers, horny and horned devils, werewolves, celebrities, and PR-obsessed shapeshifters-not to mention an extremely hot bartender named Ricardo-isn't easy. And the minute one of Amanda's undead friends disappears after texting the word, "help" (The undead-so dramatic!) she knows the afterlife is about to get really ugly.
Something sinister is at hand. Someone or something is hellbent on turning Seattle's undead underworld into a place of true terror. And this time, Amanda may meet a fate a lot worse than death.

ARC- Dead Perfect

Photobucket

Amanda Ashley was one of the first Paranormal Romance authors I read. The book was Desire After Dark, which is a great read by the way. At the time I was a bit clueless thinking it was her first book so I had to go back and read the ones that came before it and I've been reading her ever since.

At the end of the summer I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for her soon to be released novel Dead Perfect. I finally got around to reading it and it didn't disappoint. Very good read, I defintley recommend reading it. The author being a lover of vampires, has created great vampire characters time and time again. This time is no different. Although this is a vampire novel it is also a very tender and sweet romance. This is the first Paranormal Romance novel that I read that isn't bogged down by sex scenes, not that that is a bad thing. ;)

Shannah is dying and there's nothing she can do to stop it. Until she spots a man who she thinks might be a vampire. Without knowing what she really wants she starts to stalk him. But when they finally meet, he offers her something that she wasn't even looking for....

Book Description:
Only a woman with nothing left to lose knocks on a vampire’s door and asks for help. Shannah Davis is convinced that the mysterious dark-haired man she’s followed for months can save her life—if he doesn’t kill her first. But though Ronan insists he can’t give her what she needs, his kiss unleashes a primal hunger that makes her feel truly alive for the first time.

After centuries of existence, Ronan has done the unthinkable. He has fallen in love with a mortal—and one with only weeks to live. Sensing the fear and reluctance beneath Shannah’s request, he offers her a different bargain that will keep her near him during the time she has left. Every hour spent together leaves him craving her touch, her scent, her life’s essence. Soon, only Shannah can satisfy his thirst. But if he saves her from death, will she love him for it—or spend eternity regretting what she has become?

Darkling By: Yasmine Galenorn

Photobucket

If you haven't had the pleasure of reading Yasmine Galenorn's new Urban Fantasy series. Your defintley missing out and I highly recommend that you check it out. I finished reading Darkling this week. It is the third book in Galenorn's Sisters of the Moon series. I really enjoyed this just as I did the first two. The Otherworld is a great place to spend time in.

The third book is in Menolly's POV, the youngest of the sisters. Like her sisters she is half-human and half-Faerie, but she is also a vampire. Trying to deal with her demons and the nightmares of her sire. In the first two books you find out that Menolly has been through hell and is kinda hard and cold due to that. What I liked about this third book is that we got the whole story behind Menolly and found out that she isn't all cold, but has a very soft side to her. I'm looking foward to read more stories in her POV.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:
Meet the D'Artigo Sisters-three half human, half-Faerie, wild and sexy members of the OIA-the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. Camille, a witch, Delilah, a werecat, and Menolly, an acrobat extraordinaire turned vampire, are sent Earthside to keep them out of trouble by their superiors, but the girls find themselves smack in the middle of Demon-Central when Shadow Wing, the leader of the Subterranean Realms, decides to attempt a coup on both Earth and Otherworld. Now, with their erratic powers, the sisters must use their collective talents to prevent the demons from taking over and to save two worlds, one monster at a time.

All over Seattle, humans have been going missing, only to turn up as newborn vampires--the sure sign of a rogue vamp on the loose. It looks like Dredge is to blame. The same sadistic Dredge who gave me my scars, and who may well be in cahoots with the demon Shadow Wing. If so, Otherworld and Earth are screwed. The only way we can hope to defeat Dredge is for me to travel home to Otherworld, where I must face my own demons. Because unless I sever the ties that bind me to Dredge, all hell is going to break loose...

Halfway to the Grave By: Jeaniene Frost

Photobucket

I just finished reading this book. It's the first book in the Night Huntress series By: Jeaniene Frost. At first I thought I was gonna having trouble getting through it. But it was an amazingly fast read. I loved both the storie and the characters. Bones is very sexy and exciting vampire. For that alone I would recommend this book. Although I'm not a fan of the ending, I have to say Jeaniene Frost is my favorite new author. Looking forward to book two- One Foot In The Grave. It comes out April 22, 2008

Book Description:
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. Top 20 Books of 2007

Here are my Top 20 books that I read in 2007. Thanks to Amy C for this idea. I originally was just gonna list 10 books, but that was hard to do.

Gideon  By: Jacquelyn Frank
For a thousand years, Gideon has healed his people. And as the oldest surviving male of his race, his wisdom has always been respected without question. Silk and Steel is the second book in the Eververse series. I loved this one just as much as the first one. Each book the Sisters release just gets better and better. You won't be disappointed either. If you liked the first book and it's characters, you'll be happy to know that even though this is Arcady and Snow's book the main characters from Sugar and Sin make several apperances. If you get a chance, read the Sisters short story Bargin By Starlight(available in ebook format) before you read Silk and Steel. To me it's like a prequel to Silk and Steel. Plus it gives you a better understanding of Snow.
